Senior Risk Engineer (m/f)

About the team

To support our growth strategy in the EMEA region, you will closely work with our under writers, brokers and clients, with a clear focus on the German-speaking market. This will involve market awareness and support for new business deals, enabling proper risk selection and successful binding of new deals, participation in marketing events and knowledge transfer.

Being a part of the EMEA Risk Engineering team, opportunities will arise to work in other markets including knowledge transfer among the various countries.

Embedded in the global Risk Engineering Services (RES) community, you will become our expert in dedicated core industries, based on the personal experience level. This includes contribution to various projects and papers involving best practice, guidelines, U/W cost ing and indus try updates as well as conducting seminars and technical training sessions. This team approach also allows stepping in for missing expertise/resource gaps at other RES locations (globally).

About the role

You will closely interact with clients and brokers as part of the Production / Underwriting / Servicing team responsible for the German-speaking market.

The main tasks are advising our underwriters on risk quality and loss estimates in order to achieve a preferable risk selection. This is done by reviewing, interpreting and summarizing third party technical risk information and combining these into an Account Assessment (desktop risk analysis). This role also encompasses on-site risk visits and operations reviews to verify our clients’ risk mitigation approach es and to provide clients with risk improvement suggestions.

Further, to support Swiss Re’s expansion in the direct insurance business, the successful candidate will serve as the account engineer for clients written out of Swiss Re’s EMEA Region. This will involve developing client servicing strategies and client meetings as a vital member of the client servicing team. THe role also involves holding client and internal training seminars as well as developing, improving and implementing industry best practice guidelines. Based on your experience, you will become part of a global virtual industry specialist group.

The position holder is expected to have special expertise in loss prevention and loss control for a broad range of industries, preferably the Chemical or Processing Industry with a clear focus on the Germanspeaking market, but potential to work in other markets within the EMEA region.

About you

  • Master’s degree in Engineering (or similar technical degree) – preferably Chemical or Process Engineering, others will be considered based on background and experience
  • Profound loss prevention experiences ideally > 5 years
  • Property insurance background, or combination of property insurance and industrial experience
  • Strong negotiation and presenting skills
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficient computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office products)
  • Business sense, team player, service mindset
  • Language skills: German (Native speaker or comparable level) is a must – Spanish or French would be a plus
  • Willingness to travel – mainly Europe
  • Driving licence
