Transportversicherungsgeschäft hinkt in Asien hinterher

Asia Insurance Review berichtet:

However, despite the growth in fleet size in Asia, the increasing value of vessels, and an increase in global trade, the overcapacity in the market is translating into under-performing businesses caught in a continuing soft market cycle, said Mr Hamann. The issue of intense price competition was candidly summed up by Mr Ranger, who shared that a broker said to him, “My clients are absolutely loyal. They have price-loyalty.”

“As an industry, we need to make sure that we have the necessary expertise and technology to participate in Asia’s continued growth or we will continue to lose out to London,” he said. Among other things, “we should also work more closely with various government bodies in the region, and put together regular forums – such as this – that are dedicated to the issues and needs in the Asia market.”

The key to success will be dependent on insurers, recognising the problems and threats that shipping customers face, and helping them find the best solutions for their particular needs. “This means seeking mutually beneficial solutions. It also means insurers and brokers working together as an industry to build a balanced and economically viable and sustainable partnership with the shipping sector,” said Mr Hamann. (vwh)
